Abstract

Objective: To determine postprandial hyperglycemia and the risk of suffering from diabetes in people with obesity in the Family Medicine Unit No. 77. Material and methods: Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study and prospective, in 132 people with obesity. Two glucose measurements were performed, and the FINDRISC questionnaire was applied. Results: Postprandial hyperglycemia was recorded in 61%, while fasting hyperglycemia occurred in 39%, with a risk of suffering from diabetes in less than 10 years in 98% of the participants. Conclusions: It is recommended to monitor and screen postprandial glucose in patients with obesity, and to provide follow-up, because before an increase in fasting glucose is found, the presence of postprandial hyperglycemia can be detected. This is intended to earlier detection and delaying the presence of metabolic diseases such as diabetes or prediabetes, for their integration into a multidisciplinary management, which benefits a better approach in these patients.
